Tips
Please listen to and practice your part. If you would like for ME to record you at the church in a 1-on-1 setting (maintaining social distancing guidelines), let me know ASAP and I’ll work with your schedule to make that happen. You’ll just need to learn your part in advance and meet me at the church ready to sing along with the track at the day and time we agree on.
BUT if you would prefer to record yourself from home, here’s what you need to know.
Use one device (smartphone, computer, or iPad/tablet) to listen to the track through headphones. These can be earbuds or big over the ear headphones. Just whatever you have handy.
Use a second device (preferably a smartphone) to record yourself singing. So the end result will be a video of you singing where nothing else can be heard.
A few tips for how to get the best recording:
1. Make sure you’re well lit, with a light source in front of you and not behind.
2. Make sure you’re in a quiet space. No TVs on in the background, no fans blowing, etc.)
3. Have your camera turned sideways when you record so that the picture looks more like the shape of a real TV.
4. Be careful not to rattle your sheet music when you sing. The sound of paper is really loud on recordings.
5. If you don’t feel comfortable singing a certain part, then don’t. That’s OK. Just look at the camera and smile. I will be able to edit people in and out just like I did with the kids’ video. You can record yourself singing more than one part if you’d like as well! For example, record one video singing the soprano part and then a second video singing the alto part.
